We write about Michigan places with care, and we check every fact against a primary source.
We're a small, independent shop. Our guides are built from park and agency sources, and every fee, hour and closure carries the date we checked it. Our keepsakes carry the places themselves: a lighthouse, a falls, a map of the mitten.
Who writes this
Pages are written by the Mitten Trails team. We do not invent author names. First-hand notes are marked as ours ("When we visited in…"). Nothing is claimed that we did not do.
How we check it
Every fact on a place, season or guide page has a primary source: the National Park Service, the Michigan DNR, EGLE, the USGS, a county, or the business itself. Sources sit at the bottom of the page with the date we checked them. Last reviewed and next review dates change only after a real recheck.
Safety notes (cold water, ice, closures) always point at the managing agency's current conditions page. We do not state conditions as fact.
Only pages with sources and a review date go in the sitemap.
